The Lexical World
About Me
I specialize in working with students with specific language difficulties like dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia using a structured literacy and numeracy approach. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Child Development and Family Relations from University of Bombay, India. After completion of my degrees, I worked in a pre-primary school in Mumbai as an early childhood educator and also assisted the school counsellor in administering standardized assessments and personality inventories. I also assisted the counsellor in conducting play therapies.
In 1989, I had a career change when I landed an opportunity to work in Hong Kong as flight attendant for Cathay Pacific Airways. Besides my organizational and time-management skills, this role also helped enhance my work ethic, co-operational abilities and interpersonal communication skills.
In 2000, I decided to once again become an educator, where I worked for an International Baccalaureate (IB) international school in Hong Kong as a co-teacher with the Learning Enhancement Team (LET) department, supporting students with various special needs in the Middle Year Program (MYP). I then pursued PGDE in special needs from University of Hong Kong and became a registered teacher with EDB of Hong Kong. I then went on to work with other IB international schools in Hong Kong in the Primary Year Program (PYP).
In 2016, I completed an Orton-Gillingham course from the Kildonan Teacher Training Institute in Amenia, NY. I formally completed my practicum in 2019 and became a member of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators at the Associate Level. I am now currently pursuing the Certified Level Course.
In 2018, I became a committee member with Dyslexia Association Hong Kong.
